» Voltage Conversion Company » Power Inverters
Power Inverters connect to a 12V or 24V vehicle battery (car, truck, boat etc.) and invert the batteries DC output to AC (like the mains). Power Inverters come in many different sizes (measured in Watts) and the larger the power inverter's wattage the more powerful the appliance it can power. Power Inverters are often used by caravanners for powering TVs, DVDs, Satellite Boxes, Notebook Computers and other entertainment equipment. They can also be used to run power tools such as drills, saws and heat guns. Typically power inverters come with some kind of over voltage and under voltage protection to prevent any damage to the vehicle battery and to stop you running down the battery so much that the vehicle will not start. Some inverters have a soft start feature that is designed to further protect the battery. Some Power Inverters connect directly to the battery, while some (smaller wattage ones) work through a in-car cigarette lighter.
Many Power inverters have fans (like computers do) to keep them cool.
Usually a Power Inverter will have a start up rating, which it can manage for a short while, that is twice its normal running rating. This is because many appliances surge when starting up.
Power Inverters fall into two types, Pure Sine Wave Inverters which are more expensive as they more accurately mimic mains electricity and Modified Sine Wave Inverters which are much cheaper. You only need to use a Pure Sine Wave Inverter if the equipment you are connecting is especially delicate.
